Within walking distance of Temple Bar, St. Stephen’s Green, restaurants, theatres, nightlife and the main shopping districts, The Clarence is the perfect location for your wedding reception. Our front facing bedrooms, suites, meeting and private dining facilities all overlook the River Liffey.
History
The Clarence first opened its doors in 1852. In the 1930’s it was refurbished in the Arts and Crafts style and during this time the clientele ranged from the clergy to musicians. Our owners, Bono and The Edge (of U2) purchased the hotel in 1992 and transformed The Clarence from a 70 bedroomed 2 star hotel to a 49 bedroomed 5 star boutique hotelwhich re-opened in June 1996.
Accommodation
The hotel has 49 bedrooms (44 king-size double rooms, 4 suites and 1 Penthouse). Each room has been individually designed to provide accommodation that is simple, elegant and refined. The majority have super king-size double beds with some twin rooms available.
Facilities
Bedroom facilities include: In-room interactive TV and entertainment system, DVD/CD player, high speed internet access, voice mail and 24 hour room service. Other facilities include: a treatment room, a fitness room and valet parking.
The Clarence Suite
Situated on the hotel’s first floor, overlooking the River Liffey, The Clarence Suite has a bright, uncluttered interior and offers you and your guests a refreshing, alternative wedding venue in Dublin. Being our main function room, we can facilitate weddings from 20 – 75 persons in any of our three interconnecting rooms. Our private dining choices range from a simple selection of canapes to a five course dinner with an extensive wine list
The Octagon Bar
The perfect meeting place for you and your guests whilst in the hotel, ideal for both pre-dinner drinks/cocktails and informal dining. Enjoy a drink by the fire or hide out in the snug. Our ‘back bar’ area in The Octagon Bar is available for private hire and is ideal for pre-wedding drinks for smaller parties.
The Tea Room
Originally the hotel ballroom, The Tea Room restaurant has a 20 foot coved ceiling,uncluttered spacious interior and a great atmosphere. This renowned restaurant is one of Dublin’s most popular, offering you and your guests the highest level of service and cuisine served throughout the day and evening. The Tea Room can be hired out exclusively, as an alternative wedding reception venue in the hotel.
The Study
A wonderful room with a large open wood fire, where our residents can relax and enjoy full food and beverage service 24 hours a day. The Study can be hired out exclusively and is ideal for pre-wedding reception drinks for larger parties.
‘Therapy @ The Clarence’
A space has been created within The Clarence to care, pamper, indulge and awaken your senses. A selection of massage treatments are available, full details of which are listed on our ‘Therapy’ website page. For hair and make-up, we can arrange for a stylist from ‘Whetstone Hairdressing Ltd’ to come to your room on your ‘Big Day’.
The Penthouse
From the hotel rooftop, our famous Penthouse offers a unique venue for pre-wedding drinks, followed by dinner in The Clarence Suite or The Tea Room restaurant. Following your wedding, you may wish to stay here for a romantic night with piano, bar and hot tub !
