Described as the ultimate wedding venue in Ireland, Markree Castle is a charming historical building and looks like the fairytale castle you might have imagined as children. Delightful, enchanting and historically interesting the castle is a popular wedding venue because it is incredibly intimate and majestic.
Markree Castle is available you exclusively and it will be yours, privately, for the duration of your stay. Guestrooms, facilities and the glorious, lush green gardens are all at your disposal and the friendly staff will pull out all the stops to ensure that your special day is perfect. We will provide champagne for the bride and groom, flowers and the bridal suite for the night all on a complimentary basis; we are committed to ensuring that you enjoy a magical wedding.
The Markree Castle restaurant has won critical acclaim. Catering is available for up to 170 guests but no wedding is too small. Our highly trained chefs use only the best possible ingredients which are often sourced locally. We have a wide range of prospective menus but we will happily create new menus to any specifications you might desire.
Guests can enjoy receptions in the gardens on warm summer days or in the reception Hall which has a large, crackling log fire. Potential drinks for your guests include: cold punch, mulled wine, champagne, sparkling wine, peach Bellini’s or bucks fizz. Soft drinks, teas and coffees are complimentary. Enjoy your first dance in the Castle Lounge which we convert into a charming ballroom. A well stocked bar is also accessible into the night.
We want your day to be perfect so we invite you to taste the wine and food in order to choose the perfect menu and ideal wine list for your wedding day.
We have over 200 wines in our extensive wine cellar which you can choose from and we are also happy for couples to bring their own wine, although we do charge corkage.
There are 30 bedrooms at the castle which can accommodate up to 74 wedding guests and each room is charmingly decorated with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside from each window.
Every overnight guest will receive a 10% discount on the room rate on the wedding night. The Home Farm Apartments can also offer additional accommodation in their appealing self-catering complex which is only a few minutes’ walk away.
An impeccably restored chapel exists within the Castle and wedding blessings of every denomination and religious faith have been spoken there. Soon new legislation will mean that full wedding services can be performed there. The chapel seats up to 80 guests.
Receptions in the evening are catered for at the Castle, for up to 200 guests. Options include sandwiches and mini quiches, crudité platters, samosas, teas and coffees. The wedding cake is also a popular option!
