Ballinacurra House – has been voted Ireland’s Premier Private Estate for Exclusive Hire – and host intimate, boutique weddings for up to 100 +, on a 40 acre estate, just 2 minutes from Ireland’s gourmet capital.

Ballinacurra House, Kinsale, was voted “Best Exclusive Hire Property” at the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) in Cannes for 2007/08 by the prestigious Luxury Travel Magazine, beating out stiff competition from Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island, won Kinsale Business of the Year in 2008 and hit the headlines recently as the secret hideaway for Michael Jackson and his family, who rented the private Georgian Estate for a number of weeks while writing a proposed new album.

Media from all over the world descended on the Kinsale venue attracting massive publicity for the private venue and the town.

The biggest challenge for couples in the current economic climate is how to make your wedding unique and special, without compromising quality, which is why small weddings are making a comeback – and venues such as Ballinacurra House, Kinsale – provide the perfect solution for downsizing but not downgrading.

Organising a Weekend Wedding Party may seem daunting to some, and you may feel that you need the help of a wedding planner to help pull everything together. However you will not need that additional expense as the owners of Ballinacurra House – Des & Lisa McGahan – previously owned PRISM, Asia’s largest event management company in its day and run the property as their core business of an Events House – a different approach from hotels.

At Ballinacurra House customers can enjoy the experience of a 40 acre luxury, private country residence, complete with your own personal chef, butler – a bespoke wedding of your choice, in the inspirational setting of renowned medieval tourist town – Kinsale, Ireland’s culinary capital.

Magnificent south-facing walled gardens feature an outdoor entertainment patio, Italian Pizza oven, croquet lawn, playground, helipad, picnic lawn, stream and pond, and leads down to woods and a small boat jetty on the Bandon River estuary.

The property has 22 themed rooms, in the main house, cottage and coach house and the informally manicured grounds are perfect for outdoor cocktail parties, activities, garden parties and BBQ’s or winter weddings with log fires throughout. The capacity of the Ballroom for a sit-down dinner is 50 and can accommodate 96 in the Garden Room or 130 using both rooms side by side.

The McGahan’s bought the Ballinacurra House 10 years ago and set about the restoration with the Private and Exclusive use market in mind – an innovation at the time unheard of in Ireland.

“In my events business we used to rent large estates for our clients in various parts of the world and we saw how successful these were. With that in mind we took a very large financial and creative risk on setting up the concept of an exclusive use estate where clients and couples could enjoy something unique in a private setting.

Privacy is the key component of our strategy and given the current climate its all about that and the intimacy of the occasion. I am pleased to say that our business has grown year on year as a result and it appears to be the right solution for contracting times,” said owner Des McGahan.

A Private Wedding at Ballinacurra House is only ever “Exclusively Yours”.

For small groups of less than 16 people, we have an intimate private dining room with adjoining sitting room with fireplace, stone walls and atmospheric lighting.
For groups up to 50 people, we have our Renaissance-style Ballroom for formal dining.
For groups up to 90+ people, we have our Garden Room which adjoins our Ballroom.
For casual dining such as buffets and barbecues, the number of guests can go slightly higher depending on requirements and subject to agreement.
The multitude of room options means that you could have your wedding ceremony in our Ballroom, cocktails in the various sitting rooms or outside terrace, move into the Garden Room for dinner, and then the Ballroom would be transformed for a band and dancing.
We have 22 ensuite bedrooms: 14 in the Main House, 4 in the Stone Cottage and 4 in the Coach house.
If all bedrooms are occupied to capacity, we can sleep a maximum of 53 adults.
The number of rooms taken for any booking must reflect the number in your group.
If your numbers are greater than the number we can sleep, we can recommend a host of hotels, guesthouses and Bed & Breakfasts in Kinsale for the overflow guests.

Civil and Religious Ceremonies
All in the privacy of your own exclusive estate for your bespoke wedding.

Important changes in Irish marriage law took effect from November 2007, meaning it will be possible for civil marriages to be held at venues other than Registry Offices or Churches for the first time – subject to a number of conditions being met.

At Ballinacurra House, we have been approved for our first Civil Ceremony in April 2008 which has paved the way for many more couples to design the wedding they want to have at a time and place of their choice.

We believe this is set to change the landscape for weddings and making properties with extensive and private grounds an appealing alternative to the so called usual traditional church style weddings, making them the new ‘chapels of Ireland’.
